DAVE AND RUPERT TAKE A WALK ON THE WILD SIDE
After an 8 hour journey where I'm sure lots of discussion was had as to whether the journey could have been done quicker on a bike (!), Rupert and Dave (fellow cyclists as well as church leaders) arrived in Siabuwa at the OM base where Vicky had graciously waited to meet them and heat up their dinner. The trip was to encourage the churches, whom The Michael Project is working with, to continue the good work and to re-iterate the need for them to be looking for ways that they can help the needy and vulnerable children in their communities. Dave reminded the volunteers, in all of the communities they visited, that " Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is ...to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneselves from being polluted by the world." (James 1:27) Dave and Rupert also gave a short presentation on starting income generation projects and we are hoping that Nsangware (the latest village church we are working with) will take this on board and raise enough funds to contribute to a water filter for their community. The journey back took even longer and was even more eventful with Rephat's vehicle having a flat tyre in the middle of the road (or was that a river bed?!) in the middle of a thunder storm. After taking 6 hours to complete the 100km dirt road, it then took another 7 hours before the intrepid explorers arrived back in Harare, tired but triumphant !!
