Wingate Community

The Michael Project has been working with the Wingate Community north of Harare, since 1999. Our first pre-school was established here in May 2002, and currently caters for 30 children from the Wingate and surrounding high density area. In addition to preparing these children for school and supplementing their diet with a daily meal, we have also been able to identify children in need of medical care and clothing.

For the older children who are already at school, we run homework clubs, prayer groups and craft afternoons. As a result of the pre-school we have been able to assist in and witness to other areas of the Wingate Community. They in turn, take great pride in the pre-school and have been instrumental in maintaining and developing our work with the children.

Tatenda and Lovemore are two of the boys attending a Michael Project Pre-School. Both are five years old and have been orphaned by AIDS, so they know what it is like to live without parents, and without hope. Their attendance at the pre-school has given them a head start in life and they now dream of becoming a headmaster and a doctor.
